Prompt: Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks and spending time with family over a nice dinner. Write about your most unforgettable meal.

My most unforgettable meal during Thanksgiving was when I mixed the mac and cheese with the Turkey. This was very good, and I would put the mac and cheese on the Turkey and eat it. Also, I had all my family together and everyone was laughing, which also made it an unforgettable meal. I will be trying my meal idea again this Thanksgiving. Summary: Today in class, I did a group quiz. Reflection: Today in class, I learned decision-making.

Prompt: Write about a time when you realized you needed to look out for yourself in a silly or harmless situation—maybe dodging a pop quiz, escaping a group chat argument, or remembering at the last second to submit an assignment. How did choosing wisely make your life easier?

A time I realized I needed to look out for myself was when I needed to dodge a test. I needed this because I needed more time to study and prepare. I ended up taking the test the next day, and I did great on it. Although I should have learned earlier. Summary: Today in class, I continued reading the short story. Reflection: Today in class, I learned more about the story.

Prompt: Describe a time that you had an encounter with a homeless person, either directly or indirectly. What did you think and how did it make you feel?

A time I had an encounter with a homeless person was around a month ago. I gave him a dollar and he looked at me strangely. He seemed very unappreciative. It made me feel weird because I was helping him out. Summary: Today in class, I read another short story. Reflection: Today in class, I learned how to analyze the short story.

Prompt: Write about what you are thankful for.

I am thankful for my friends and family. I appreciate them a lot and look up to them. I wouldn't be who I am without them. I always try to enjoy my friends and family because of all they have done for me. In summary, I am thankful for my friends and family because they are great people and bring the best out of me. Summary: Today in class, I worked on vocabulary lesson three. Reflection: Today in class, I learned new vocabulary lesson three terms.

Prompt: The last scene forces readers to reinterpret Emily’s entire life. Write about a moment when new information changed your perception of a person or situation. How did that “plot twist” reshape your understanding, the same way Faulkner’s ending reshapes the story?

A moment when new information changed my perception of a person was my Dad. This reshaped my understanding because when I got older, I learned new things that he did for my family. This twist made me start working harder and doing all kinds of things for my family. In summary, this new information made me feel more compassion and started making me work harder.  Summary: Today in class, I did a group pop quiz. Reflection: Today in class, I learned more about the story.

Prompt: In “A Rose for Emily,” Miss Emily’s actions shock the reader—she kills her fiancé and keeps his body in her home for years. People often react with disbelief when they hear about real-life stories that seem just as unbelievable. Write about the most shocking or “craziest” news story you have ever heard. What happened, and why did it stand out to you? How did people react to it, and what does it reveal about human behavior?

One shocking news story I heard was about a man who faked his own death to avoid paying his debts. He disappeared for months, and everyone thought he had drowned, but later police found him living under a new name in another state. People were amazed and angry when the truth came out. This story stood out to me because it showed how far some people will go to escape their problems. It reminds me that people can act in strange ways when they feel desperate. Summary: Today in class, I read more of the book. Reflection: Today in class, I learned a new term.

Prompt: Miss Emily’s house once represented pride and tradition, but over time it became a symbol of decay and isolation. Describe a place that holds deep memories for you—positive or negative—and explain how it reflects part of who you are or how you’ve changed over time.

A place that holds deep memories to me is my room. It is a positive development because it has evolved over the years. I have stayed in the same room all my life. Over the years, my room has become more diverse than it used to be. I have posters, collectibles, and plenty of things that I thought I would never like when I was younger. My room has changed over time just like how I have been. Summary: Today in class, I read "A Rose for Emily".  Reflection: Today in class, I learned what the word "decree" means in the text.

Prompt: Think about the vocabulary words from Lesson Two. Write about a time you saw or heard one of these words outside of the classroom — maybe in a movie, song, social media post, or book. Describe how it was used and whether the context helped you understand the word better.

A time I heard the word donnybrook was when my grandpa said it to me. I didn't know till now what that meant till now. My grandpa said the word when there was a hockey fight on TV.  I was young, but I thought it meant they were just playing the game in the context of what he told me. I would use this word from now on. Summary: Today in class, I worked on vocab two and my group presentation. Reflection: Today in class, I learned more vocabulary terms.

Thinking about “The Rockpile,” which parent or guardian in your life has been the strictest when it comes to discipline? Explain how their approach to discipline has influenced you or shaped your behavior.

The strictest person in my life when it comes to discipline has been my mom. She always made sure I followed the rules, did my homework, and showed respect to others. If I messed up, she didn’t yell, but she would sit me down and explain why what I did was wrong. Her way of handling things taught me to think before I act and to take responsibility for my actions. Because of her, I try to make good choices and stay out of trouble. Summary: Today in class, I worked on my group project. Reflection: Today in class, I learned how to research poems.

Thinking about "The Rockpile," what is something your parents forbade you from doing when you were growing up? Explain what it was and why they might have set that rule.

When I was growing up, my parents forbade me from going to the park alone. They said it wasn’t safe because there were a lot of older kids who sometimes caused trouble, and they didn’t want me to get hurt or lost. At the time, I thought they were just being too strict, but now I understand they were trying to protect me. Like in “The Rockpile,” parents often make rules because they care and want to keep their children out of danger. Summary: Today in class, I learned about the "rockpile" poem. Reflection: Today in class, I learned more on how to research a poem.

Words shape how we think, write, and interpret literature. Think about a time when learning a new word or understanding a specific term helped you better analyze a text, express an idea, or make your writing stronger.

I remember when I learned the word “symbolism.” Before that, I thought details in stories were just random. But when I found out symbolism means something that stands for a bigger idea, it helped me understand books better. For example, I realized that a storm in a story could show anger or sadness. Learning that word made it easier for me to explain my ideas and write more clearly. Summary: Today in class, I studied vocabulary. Reflection: Today in class, I learned what the word "anomaly" means.
